The review I wrote for Thin Blade could easily be applied to Sovereign Stone - this was a fantastic story with a lot of very original elements. I had been very hopeful that one specific character would change sides and was not disappointed, but that was about the only thing in the story that might have been even remotely predictable, the rest was all wildly outside my expectations - the story was a true rollercoaster.I couldn't recommend this series more for any fantasy fan.

There's not much to remind you about the first book, and so you'd better have a good memory. It felt like a mix of info-dump-y paragraphs (which didn't help me) and full conversations between people I couldn't remember. Maybe the characters weren't different enough. I still can't remember the difference between the male companions (Lucky and Anatoly and someone). They seem too much like the same person. Oh, and there were a couple times I thought the same person was referred to by different names. Maybe it would have been easier to read instead of listen to.
Similar to the first book, this book had lots of adventure and quests and bad guys and magic creatures and revelations of heritage and magic. Fun.
However, the fairy realm scenes were not to my taste. The brief, dangerous encounters now and then didn't always fit in with the whole. Two things that might be plot holes bugged me.
I like the characters' insistence on following the "old law" and basing things on truth and justice and such. I like the shape of Alexander's character and the sort of people he draws around him. His magic is growing, but still fairly defined. I wish I knew more of how the other magic works (potions?), though.
From beginning to end--action, suspense, fear, victory, magic, dragons,excitement, loss, and so on. WOW! Another winner. I'm ready to start number three and can hardly wait. I'd recommend this book to those who love fantasy/adventure.
Wow, this second book is like a repeat of the first book in the series. For some reason, I lost interest in the main character and the plot line. Seems the whole series is a race to see who can get the most artifacts first.
I love these stories and wish to continue. I can't wait to know what comes next.
I have never read stories written by men and especially fantasy. My husband always read fantasy like the Lord of the Rings. And if he was alive, he might enjoy this one.

This whole series is quite good. Only in the 4th and 5th book did all that was happening start to stretch a little long but was easily tolerable. Loved the philosophy of the hero! Some predictable characters come in at the beginning but I enjoyed the team going into action anyway. It's fun to have good chess pieces around you to secure victories and accomplish trials from enemies etc. The action was realistic enough (for fantasy) however like alot of these epics and fantasies, they come close to death over and over and over...These were worth what I paid and I really like that the author put out the 1st of 7 in the series for free to let sink into it...and I bought the next six....ah a win-win.
So glad I picked this series at a time when I needed to keep my mind busy - I couldn't put it down which was just what I needed. Was it perfect, no it had a few flaws (book 6 lol). But to be able to write 7 long books and not leave any questions unanswered, keep his fans enthralled and have so many balls in the air w/o dropping one... this man deserves a prize. Great job, thank you for writing a great series ))
This series is a great read. The characters develop at a smooth pace, new villains and plot twists abound.Although there is a lot of magical tools, they aren't thrown in like rewards in a video game, and the characters develop in their use. Very few solipsisms, some problem with measurements; that is saying an engraved magic staff 1 inch in diameter is sturdy when 1 inch is just over the size of a big fishing pole! I am finishing the final book right now, and I am as interested as starting out on the first. Read this series, really.
